Save Wandsworth's Heritage:
Protect Our Parks and Historic Buildings
Wandsworth Council's rule changes could pave the way for development on cherished green spaces and historic landmarks. Sign the petition now to defend Putney's unique character and heritage.
The Wandsworth Council is proposing changes to the Conservation and Heritage Advisory Committee (CHAC) that could significantly weaken protections for our historic buildings, parks, and conservation areas. These changes would require the CHAC to consider broader planning priorities, such as housing targets and economic factors, potentially prioritizing development over preservation.
Why This Matters
For decades, the CHAC has been the guardian of Wandsworth's architectural and cultural heritage, preventing inappropriate developments that threaten our community's identity.
The proposed changes could make it easier to demolish historic buildings, encroach on conservation areas, and overlook community concerns in favor of rapid urban development. You can read about six times in the past when CHAC input has had a verifiable, positive impact.

Protect Wandsworth's historic buildings and parks
We urge Wandsworth Council to take CHAC’s heritage advice seriously — and explain clearly when it doesn’t. And we call on CHAC to stay focused on what matters most: protecting our historic buildings, parks, and conservation areas. Our heritage belongs to all of us. Let’s protect it, together.
What’s at Risk
The proposed changes explicitly include parks and gardens, opening up areas such as Wandsworth Park, Battersea Park, Putney Vale Cemetery, Grove House, and two parks on the Alton estate in Roehampton to potential development.
How You Can Help
We urge all residents who value our community’s heritage to stand against these proposed changes. By signing the petition below, you can send a clear message to Wandsworth Council that our historic buildings and green spaces are worth preserving.
