Lib Dem policies unveiled following manifesto launch
The Lib Dem Manifesto has been published. Click here for access to its text. Click here for a summary of key policies as seen from a Wandsworth perspective, with additional explanation.
As headline items, key Lib Dem policies include:
- GP Guarantee. Give everyone the right to see a GP within seven days, or 24 hours if its urgent, with 8,000 more GPs to deliver it.
- Cancer treatment. Guarantee patients start treatment within 62 days from urgent referral.
- Free personal care. Introduce free personal care for elderly people at home so provision is based on need, not ability to pay.
- Mental Health. Place a mental health professional in every school, so every child and parent have someone to turn to when they need help.
- Tackle the climate crisis. Invest in renewable power to generate 90% of the UK’s electricity from renewables by 2030 and achieve net zero by 2045.
- Stop sewage dumping. Transform water companies into public benefit companies, ban bonuses for water bosses until discharges and leaks end, and replacing Ofwat with a tough new regulator.
- Fix the UK’s broken relationship with Europe. Forge a new partnership based on cooperation not confrontation, aiming for a new comprehensive agreement to remove trade barriers.
- Fairness in Funding. Fund our public services and raise money for investment by reversing Conservative’s tax cuts for big banks and imposing a one-off windfall tax on the super-profits of oil and gas producers.
- Transform our politics. Introduce proportional representation for electing MPs, and local councillors in England, to make voting fair and ensure no politician can take you for granted.
