Happy Diwali!
For many here and around the world, Rishi Sunak's appointment as Britain's Prime Minister is a powerful symbol of changing social attitudes.
Sunak, who was born in Southampton to African-born Hindu parents of Indian Punjabi descent, took over from Liz Truss as Britain's PM on Monday 24 October, during Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights.
Liberal Democrat MP for Twickenham commented on his appointment that, even though she disagreed with Rishi Sunak's politics, she was "heartened to witness the first ever brown PM in Downing Street".
Liberal Democrat member in London, David Raval mentioned diverse candidates from other parties too.
Local Liberal Democrat member, Kieren McCarthy, commented: "Wandsworth is a diverse community and seeing diversity in politicians of all persuasions is vital. I know it will be inspiring for my daughters to see a family that looks a bit like ours in Number 10."
There was a huge reaction from the Indian diaspora across the globe, mainly on WhatsApp. As Kieren explained, his Indian-American in-laws "have spent all day sharing images and memes about Rishi Sunak and how Britain now has an Indian Prime Minister."
